Sodium Hypochlorite Tanks

Sodium Hypochlorite Tanks for Sodium Hypochlorite storage is used as a sterile bleach solution from the common domestic applications to the food industries to swimming pools. With high levels of chlorine up to 15%, care is required in specification of a hypo storage tank.   Sodium hypochlorite (bleach, Hypochlorous Acid, Sodium Oxychloride, NaOCl and NaClO) is used in a variety of applications, particularly in disinfecting drinking water and wastewater.

Factors to consider when storing Sodium Hypochlorite

When storing this chemical, three factors must be considered;

  • Sodium hypochlorite when in contact with UV so precautions must be taken to reduce this effect either as storing the tanks inside a building or in opaque black tanks.
  • Sodium hypochlorite typically contains metals such as nickel, iron and copper, which can build up in a storage tank and create off-gassing. These gasses from a “hypo storage tank” is a potent oxidizer, so all materials in the chemical’s storage tank must be up to the task.
  • Sodium hypochlorite has a relatively high density so a heavy-duty industrial tank is required

If you do not already have secondary containment in place for Sodium Hypochlorite Tanks or are looking for a better option, a bunded tank is a great solution. This “tank within a tank” allows for greater safety by providing a system that has 110-per cent bunded containment.

How Should Sodium Hypochlorite Be Stored?

Sodium Hypochlorite is an aggressive oxidizer that presents a major storage challenge and has many storage challenges.  This bunded hypo storage tank is offered with chemical tank options including liquid level sensor assemblies and fill pipes, fittings and modifications to suit your application.  This includes inlets, outlets, PN16 and ANSI flanges, welded sockets and as well as fume proof lids and vents.
